Quick investigations that I have done suggest that fusesmb needs some Samba libraries in order to compile and/or execute. More research is required.

I have never tried NFS remotely. You probably need port 111 for portmapper and 2049 for NFS, both TCP and UDP. You may need to experiment. You could try using TMSServer to start the NFS server and mount your PVR's HDD remotely using your VPN connection.
