Timeshift & recording problems, freeze...

Hello,

Since a few months, I have strange problems with my Topfield…

At the beginning, I had sometimes problems with Timeshift that didn’t function anymore (no pause or rewind possible) and I received also error messages: Record Error occured - Timeshift restart.

I encountered another error: Timeout in FST Search - recordings not available anymore (HDD not detected).

A third error is: HDD Error or No HDD detected and the image freezes before the receiver reboots…

Now, I have regularily problems with Timeshift that I can’t practically not use anymore; the recordings are hectic: they don’t start or they are made but not complete (a few MB instead of some GB); the image freezes regularly (a red “!” appears on the display) and the receiver sometimes reboots after a few seconds… or not (I have then to do do it manually)…

To watch TV is a daily challenge...

Disc problem? Something else?

sounds like a broken hdd or sata cable.
can you upload the log file from hddinfo tap?

I already sent log files like TAPsystem.log or Smartdecrypter.log but I don't find this one... :-)

you have to install the tap hddinfo and start it manually. you will find the log file in programfiles/settings/hddinfo

whom did you send them to? Here, there is no official Topfield support available anymore.

Thanks, it's installed!

You'll find the log file in attach (in zip form because .log files seem not be accepted...).

Do you need to wait some days to have a new complete log or is this actual information sufficient?

here we can see that the sata cable has problems or/and the harddisk is broken...

udma CRC und command timeout are the parameters which are reponsible for my suggestion.

if you change the sata cable it is important to use the old power cable again becouse there are to pins interchanged (5 and 12V)

All related to disk problems, right? Plus a problem linked to the temperature may be (airflow temp.)?

For Seagate hdds the above values have special meanings and are okay.

0xbe Airflow Temperature 70 46

The maximum temperature was 54 degree Celsius and is also in the allowed range.

Only the following two values are bad if they are growing:

0xbc Command Timeout 100 82
0xc7 UDMA CRC Error Count 200 197

You only have to change the part for the data. For the part for the power you must use the installed one. If both are connected in one cable you must split them to get the power part alone.

In the meantime, is it possible to do recordings on an external USB drive?

I've connected one but I don't see how I can record a film on it (rather than on the internal one)...

Is it a something special to do?

On another hand, due to the problems I probably encounter with the internal drive, the freeze and reboot problems can still occur...

you need the TMSMount Tap and preferably SmartEPG to be able to comfortably use the external drive. In SmartEPG under IQTuner Setup you can then choose the option to record on an external drive.

Dear all,

Since my last post, I have though encountered a strange problem with the recordings that I never had before the replacement of the Sata cable...

Sometimes, when I schedule a recording (via the Guide or directly in the recordings reservation menu), I don't find it in the recorded programmes list...

Most of the time, if I'm watching a station and then I record a movie on another station, no problem.

But if I schedule a recording because I will not be present, it doesn't (always) function. I noticed once I was present that the recording well begins (and I can see the progression bar in the recordings list) but when it's finished, nothing is to find in this list anymore (nor in the other folders like Autodescrambled or Autodescrambled_failed...).

To give a concrete example: a few days before, I scheduled a recording on 31/10 of 2 episodes of a French serie (Le Tueur du Lac) from 20:25 to 22:25 on channel La Une HD (belgian station). No recording il the list!

The week before, I had done the same (but via the Guide) with 2 previous episodes of this serie (being also not present at home) and the recordings were well in the recording list (strangely, only 1 of the 2 had been descrambled a few days later...)

In attachement, you will find the SmartDecrypter log. Hope it can help!

Do you already encounter this kind of problem?

there are two things: it could be a feature of "ci+" or your receiver has no receive on both tuners...

the SmartDecrypter log will not help in that case.

Do you mean I have a problem with a tuner? If I plug the dish cables on the 2 other plugs, can it help?

The fact is that I recorded the same program 2 times: the first time, it was OK and the other was not OK! The only difference is that the first time, I used the Guide, and the second time, it was in the recording program because I wanted to record the 2 episodes in only 1 recording to avoid the little cut between the 2.

What I find strange is the fact that the recording begins well on the Topfield and it is just like it erases then the recording once it is done...

the records that are gone/deleted are they from a scrambled channel where you have to use a ci+ modul/card? if yes the tv channel can delete the record on your receiver.
if not, ore to be shure: you ave to check if you can receive on both tuners the tv channel where you have recorded...the receiver will delete every record with 0 MB and that happends when ther was no data received while the record.
