Impossible to turn it off!
Impossible to turn it off!
Hello,
Sorry, ich sprache kein Deutsch... So may I propose my question in english?
I tried to reach Topfield directly but I have never had an answer... So I try this forum!
I have a Topfield 2401CI+ and since the beginning it's impossible to turn it off, it automatically switches on again! The only alternative I have is to use the on / off switch on the backside of the device... I already tried to change the standby parameters without success.
I also read in this forum that the problem could be caused by the network connection (problem with a program in windows that causes it to switch on but anyway I have a Mac!) and I disconnected the Lan cable to try but the problem remains...
Could somebody help me?
Vous pouvez aussi répondre en français, ma langue maternelle... :-)
Vielen Dank!

AW: Impossible to turn it off!
Welcome on board.
What is the time span between shutting it down and the next power up? Is it immediately or are the some minutes in between?

AW: Impossible to turn it off!
it sounds like the autodescramble function...you can set it that it starts working after you turn it off.
so look in the settings and have a look which mode is the best for you.

Thanks for your (very) quick answers!
For the first question, the problem occurs after 1-2 minutes. The front display then displays the name of the program (RTL, BBC...) and after a few minutes: "AUTO DESC...".
For the second one, sorry for this stupid remark but... can you precise what is exactly the autodescramble function? Where do you find it?
I found 2 settings linked with the standby mode but it is opposite to what you means I think. In Settings - Miscellaneous I have 2 parameters concerning standby and I tried all possibilities:
But where can I find the autodescramble function in the Menu?
Thanks in advance!

Menu - Settings - Recording - AutoDescramble. Disable it and your problem will be gone.

Thanks for your advice!
I changed this parameter and tried a few times. It seems to stop but... not always. I'll wait until tomorrow to test again and I let you informed!
In the meantime, can you explain me the usefulness of this parameter...?
Thanks a lot!

In the worst case, you can try a factory reset. There are TAPs (ChannellistSaver, RoboChannel), which help you to restore the channel settings quickly. That setting should make sure that all encrypted recordings get decrypted. For example, fast forward doesn't work correctly with encrypted recordings.
AW: Impossible to turn it off!
Autodescramble: When you record encrypted channels, the receiver can record them unencrypted, if (a) you are using a CI module, and (b) the receiver has the recording tuner as active tuner, so the CI module can be initialized correctly. If the CI module is used for something else (especially on the other tuner), the stream is recorded as it comes in, including the encryption. Now the recorded stream gets decrypted when you watch it. But sometimes keys change, and then you can't watch your recording any more, because the card in the CI module has not the matching keys any more for that recording. To avoid that, you can make a copy of your recording, so you start playback, wait for the stream to start decrypting so you can see the picture, and then start the copy by pressing the record button. Now you get a decrypted recording that you can watch as often and whenever you want.
AutoDecrypt tries to do exactly that thing, it tries to detect a encrpyted recording, and when the receiver is not used (e.g. by switching it off) it tries to start the receiver end perform the actions described above for you, thus giving you a decrypted copy. Sadly it seems to have some bugs when it can't start the decryption correctly, either because the keys have already changed, or the CI takes too long initializing.
There is a TAP called "SmartDecrypter" which has a more stable functionality if it is needed.

Thanks for all those - very technical - explanations! :-)
For the moment, it seems to work; I tried several times and it remains off. Wait and see...
You speak about a problem like fast forward that doesn't work correctly; I encounter sometimes this problem when using Timeshift or when watching a recording (another similar problem: if I push on "Pause", a yellow cross appears indicating that I can't use this function). If I understand well, it should be linked with an encryption problem?
I encounter also another problem probably of the same kind: sometimes I can't read some recordings at all: it returns this error: "Your smartcard is not authorized for this channel (though I have watched it!).
To avoid those problems, if I understand well, I have to do a factory reset? But I never used TAPs... Is it not sufficient that I take a backup of all datas (via the Store System Data menu) and that I restore them after the factory reset?
Is a firmware upgrade not useful?
Thanks a lot for your help!

AW: Impossible to turn it off!
The message with "Your smartcard is not authorized..." is probably related to encrypted recordings, which might be avoided by a functioning AutoDescramble (or better: SmartDecrypter). FactoryReset does not affect that! Especially since that problem occurs in the CI module or in the communication between CI module and card. Sometimes removing and re-inserting the CI module might give it a kick so it restarts decryption.
TAPs are not evil! While they are not official extensions from Topfield, many users invested much time to create them and make the receiver more useable. And if you see what e.g. SmartEPG can do in contrast to the builtin EPG, you will probably regret the time you used your receiver without it
As for the receiver firmware, at least the one from january 2015 (available from the downloads on top of the page) is strongly recommended.

OK! As I don't want to use again Autodescramble to avoid my first problem (!), where can I find AutoDecrypt. Or how can I use SmartDecrypter?
Thanks!

Store system data will create a backup of all settings. If you restore this backup and the settings had a problem, you will re-import your problem. The mentioned TAPs work differently: they will export the channel data and then add these channels on a fresh settings (ChannellistSaver) or sort the channel list after a scan so that it is in the same order as before (RoboChannel).

if you want to use TAPs you have to install TAPtoDate first and have a internetconnection with your toppi!
with TAPtoDate you can install all other taps. SmartDecrypter works with SmartEPG and RebuildNav in combination, so you have to install SmartEPG or RebuildNav or both that SmartDecrypter can work.
if you click on the TAPtoDate icon in my signature you will find the download.

I'll try TAPtoDate BUT... I suppose it is running under Windows... because I use an iMac... :-)
But if necessary, I have virtualized Windows XP. Hope that I can connect to the Topfield...

All you need to do is to download the .zip file, copy the contained .tap file to your receiver, best by FTP into the ProgramFiles folder. For this you have to activate the FTP function in the network settings, but it is convenient to have for other things, too. Then you open the TAP folder on your receiver (open recorded files, then press >> until you see the program files, and then start the .tap file. This installs TAPtodate.
Then you can start TAPtodate from that program files folder, just like you started the installation, wait a bit for it to download the additional information it needs, and then you can start using it to install other TAPs.

Well... I guess I have still a lot of things to learn...
I however succeeded in installing TAPtoDate on the Topfield - don't laugh Twilight...
- and I now have access on all TAPs.
If I've followed, I must install SmartEPG and / or (?) RebuiltNAV in order to use SmartDecrypter, what will avoid my encryption problems, right? I understand that SmartEPG will advantageously replace the built in EPG (great!) but what will do Rebuilt NAV? BTW, do I have to install SmartEPG_TMS or SmartEPG Fontpack? Or the 2?
Thanks!

the font pack is included in the installation of SmartEPG. please install RebuildNav too because it moves the crypted files automaticly in the autodescramble folder.
in SmartEPG and RebuildNav you have to switch to SmartDecrypter timer and in SmartDecrypter you have to adjust the timewindow for SmartDecrypter where you allow it to work.
